Hello world,
This is a blog to record my experiences with discovering wine of the world with Dr. Boyer's wine class at Virginia Tech. As a first assignment, I am tasked with writing my current know-how of wine and where I stand before the semester starts. To start off, I love wine. Wine to me, is a great compliment to a meal or to just drink in the free time. I have been trying wine for most of my life as my parents drink wine and have good knowledge of it. Seeing them drink wine intelligently is the main reason I want to take this class. I want to be able to pair wine with meals and truly know what is going on with this magical drink.
My favorite wine at the moment is cabernet sauvignon. I absolutely love the dry taste with zero sweetness. This is definitely influenced by my parents as that is what they like to drink. They also enjoy a merlot as I do too. As I understand, this is a common grape from South America and they have traveled those parts of the world extensively. I do also enjoy white wine on occasion. I have no idea what the differences are though. All I know is that it goes well with seafood... I also LOVE sparkling wine and champagne. You really can't go wrong with cava or prosseco, especially if you are making some mimosa's at brunch.
In terms of exploring outside my favorites, I have done some exploring. I have gone to some wineries in Kentucky and one in Virginia. I have also attended Cork and Fork twice. I really enjoy it cause I get my buzz on but I am not a huge fan of most American wine. I have found them to be too sweet for my taste, but I will give them a chance. The opposite goes for European wine. I have so far enjoyed them immensely. I am also looking forward to exploring countries I've never tried.
Lastly, I am quite excited to start this course. I can't wait to try the many wines that exist around the world and truly learn to taste and categorize wine. It will be a fun time!
